Early Fraternity Life and Career
Nathan started classes at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor in 2006. Nathan was a member of the University's waterski team his freshman year. After multiple wipe-outs that fall, Nathan sought to broaden his extracurricular activities on campus. The following year, Nathan rushed Phi Sigma Pi's Beta Alpha chapter and was inducted in the fall of 2007.
Collegiate Years at Beta Alpha
Nathan was the Leadership (formerly known as Service) Chair his junior year of college. His committee organized a Chapter event to Cedar Point to raise money for Teach for America. The Chapter used the money they raised working at Cedar Point to purchase over $1,400 worth of school supplies for two Teach for America classrooms in Chicago, Illinois. Nathan and his committee forged a relationship with these two classrooms and took a road-trip to Chicago to meet the classrooms and deliver the school supplies.
While visiting the TFA classrooms, Nathan and his Brothers had an opportunity to listen to Gem Moya talk about her experience in Teach for America. She spoke of how TFA had completely changed her perspective of education in the United States. Ms. Moya also let us know how important our contribution was to her classroom in helping her students succeed.
For their efforts in helping Teach for America, Beta Alpha received the 2009 C.H. McClure Single Service Award.
Nathan is currently the Fundraising Chair of Beta Alpha during his senior year.
