The Year 1988 in review for Phi Sigma Pi.

1988

  • As more chapters were added, the workload on the volunteer National Officers intensified. The supplies and equipment required to run the fraternity were quickly overwhelming the capacity of the home of National Treasurer/Secretary Steven DiGuiseppe. To remedy this situation, the National Headquarters was officially separated from the National Treasurer/Secretary in 1988.
  • The fraternity began renting 1,000 square feet of space in the basement of 302 E Charlotte Street, Millersville, Pennsylvania as its official headquarters. This was the first time the fraternity headquarters was not in the home of the Secretary/Treasurer. This was the home of Harley and Sherri Johnson, the parents of Jeff Johnson. Jeff Johnson's mother, Sherri Johnson, was hired to become the first part-time administrative assistant to manage many of the day-to-day functions. Both Harley and Sherri Johnson donated countless hours and numerous resources traveling, moving, organizing and helping the fraternity get on solid footing in the early days of its revitalization.
  • After a long history of Chapter Advisors serving as the primary source of National Officer candidates, Dr. Jack Thornton, Tau Chapter Advisor, completes his term as National President and the last long time Chapter Advisor on National Council. The council transitions to alumni as the primary pool for National Officer candidates.
  • Muscular Dystrophy Association is made the first National Philanthropy of Phi Sigma Pi.
