2013 Alternative Break Project

From PhiSigmaPiWiki

The 2013 Alternative Break Project took place May 12-18, 2013 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The project was hosted by TC Howe High School and involved creating resource spaces to help students learn about career and collegiate opportunities.

T.C. Howe High School

T.C. Howe High School is a former Indianapolis Public School (IPS) and has been a Teach For America partner since 2008. After failing to make gains in student achievement for six consecutive years, Howe was taken over by the state of Indiana and named one of the state’s four “turnaround” schools. Under the turnaround model, the school was restaffed and is attempting to pull off a dramatic turnaround before being turned back over to IPS. The school has put a huge focus on developing human capitol and hired 14 Teach For America Corps Member as part of this initiative. The school is also co-led by an alumna of Teach For America. T.C. Howe High School also includes a middle school.
