Initiates are required to do dialogues with 20 brothers, at least one alumni, and members of their initiate class to create a strong bond of fellowship. We have recently added an interchapter dialogue with willing brothers from other chapters in the area. They attend Sunday night business meetings and Thursday night events (which are centered around the three legs of the tripod and put on by our different committees, E-board, and Risk Management).

The initiates also develop and implement four initiate events as a rush class; These events are centered around the tripod: Scholarship, Leadership and Fellowship. They put on a service event, a scholastic event and a social event. The Alpha Zeta Rush class conducted a canned food drive for their service event, went to one of the many gardens on campus and had a tour of the greenhouse for their scholastic event, and put on a reality tv show competition for brothers for their social event.

The Colin Dolehanty Tripod Scholarship

This award is named for a Beta Sigma Chapter Charter Member, Colin Dolehanty, who selflessly dedicated his life to the advancement of the Beta Sigma Chapter and the opportunities it affords the men and women of Michigan State University. He was also a man who demonstrated the ideals of the Fraternity: scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. After his untimely death, Colin's parents decided to give back to the organization for which he loved and cared. Each year at the Beta Sigma Founder's Day Banquet, the Dolehantys award this scholarship to the Chapter Brother who best exhibits the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and fellowship.

The winner of the Colin Dolehanty Tripod Scholarship in 2012 was Kailey Shelton
