  • Creating biographical pages for National Council members, past and present

Guidelines

Please feel free to add projects as you see fit and join in tackling some of the projects as a participant. As projects are completed and reviewed please remove them from the Open Tasks section below.

Scholar's Province and Past Council

Referring the the Scholar's Province (12th Ed) I have broken up task sections based on the text sections where we can start creating biographical pages on the information provided. Please take a section and complete the respective biographies for the individuals covered in that section. After you complete a section please remove it from the list. Not all individuals mentioned are necessarily former Council members, however please still create or complete biographies for everyone mentioned. * Founders, pages 11-13


Dr. Claude A. Phillips

Spent a total of eighteen years at Warrensburg before becoming the director of the University Elementary School at the University of Missouri.

Served as the chairman for the University of Missouri Committee on Accredited Schools and Colleges from 1926 to 1949.

Wrote several books on education, including Adventuring in Young America and Building Our Country, both publised in 1929.

Dr. C.H. McClure

Served Warrensburg for eighteen years and thirteen years as the head of History Department.

Accpeted the teaching position at the State Teachers College, Kirksville, Missouri (now known at Truman State University) in 1928 where he worked to form the Beta chapter of Phi Sigma Pi. He formed the Beta Chapter in 1929.

Served both National Counselor and Vice President from 1930 to 1937. Publised several books including The Story of Ancient Times in 1937 and A World Background for the United States in 1946. He was awarded for the first Distinguished Service Key ever issued by Phi Sigma Pi in 1931.

Joseph G. Bryan

Elected as the first National President of Phi Sigma Pi.

Rolla F. Wood

Became the National President in 1928.

Walter P. Percival

Elected Natioal President in 1930.

Clarence O. Williams

National Secretary from 1930 to 1936

Used his position as an associate professor of education at Pennsylvania State College, State Collge, Pennsylvania.

Clair B. Wilson

National President

Recognized the need to encourage the learning of the material and transformed his ideas into the Handbook of Phi Sigma Pi.

Clair B. Wilson, James M. McCallister, James K. Stoner, and long time Regional Director Simon S. Shearer. were gone.

Death clamed Beecher Flanagan in 1950 and Sanders P. McComsey in 1955.

Joseph Torchia

One of the two most dedicated National Officer

Was employed at his alma mater as an associate professor of education from 1946 to 1975.

Did extensive tutoring, including teaching speed reading to individuals and business groups.

Dr. Richard C. Todd

One of the two most dedicated National Officer

Served as the Tau Chapter advisor for many years and held virtually every officer position on the National Council.

At East Carolina University, Todd was an outstanding history professor and advisor to many undergraduate organizations.

Todd is described on the East Carolina University website as, "...one of the department's most caring and generous professors."

Henry W. Olsen, Leroy G. Pulver, Perry McCandless, and Abram Foster helped with the assistance for Todd and Torchia.

Abram Foster

He was the National President and let the Grand Chapter Convention at Washington, D.C. on October 1, 1966.

Richard J. Donald

Was the National President.

Led the National Convention at Washington D.C. on October 7, 1997 where the National Constitution was amended to admit eligible women.

Laura Abney

Alpha Chapter was the first chapter to induct Laura as a brother.

Clauda Pennock Todd

Tau Chapter was the first chapter to be induct Clauda as a Honorary Brother when Barry Mitsch, Tau 826, was the initiate advisor

In the beginning of 1980, alumni and undergraduates began to assert their influce on the fraternity by serving as National Officers. Robert Helm established this precedent in 1980 and was followed by David Patti, Robert Zalimeni, Michael Hosey, and Kenneth Delorge. This trend was solified in 1984 with the election of Steven DiGuiseppe and Linda Wilson.

Jack Thornton

Was the only Chapter Advisor left on the National Council with the remaining five positions being held by alumni or undergraduates.

Dr. Anita P. Davis

The advisor of Alpha Alpha Chapter at Converse College, is the first female to be elected as a National Officer and National Historian.

Long Range Planning Committee

Jeffrey Johnson and Steven DiGuiseppe was among with others at the Long Range Planning Committee did the task of ensuring Phi Sigma Pi's future by reactivating chapters that were inactive.

Mary Roberts

Was the Director of the Students Activities at the University of the District Columbia.

Helped to reactivate the the Rho Chapter.

Steven DiGuiseppe

Was the National Secretary/Treasurer and then National President.

Saw potenital growth and with the help of past National Council officer and Chapter Advisor, Dr. Richard Robinson, to reactivate the Beta Gamma Chapter.

Helped to reactivate following chapters: Kappa Chapter - 1988

Helped to create the following new chapters: Alpha Beta Chapter (Founder - Mike McQueney, Sigma 787) - 1988 Alpha Gamma Chapter (Founder - Jeffery Johnson) - 1988 Alpha Delta Chapter (Founder - Justin Kirsten, Sigma 809) - 1988 Alpha Epsilon Chapter - 1988 Alpha Zeta Chapter Alpha Theta Chapter (David Eshelman, Sigma 807) Alpha Iota Chapter Alpha Kappa Chapter (Founder - Mark Pabst, Tau 1108) Alpha Lambda Chapter (Founder - Greg Armstrong, Sigma 871)

Jeffery Johnson

Was recognized for his passion and abilities by the National Coucil and asked to serve as the Eastern Regional Director for Phi Sigma Pi for the 1987-1988 academic year. This position was a non-National Council volunteer position that had not been held for almost 50 years.

Was handed the reigns of National President from Steven DiGuiseppe, who then assumed a support role of Immediate Past National President.

Letti Large

Was hired as the first full-time Executive Director in 1990.

Dr. David L. Batts

Was the first recipient of the Richard Cecil Todd & Clauda Pennock Todd Tripod Scholarship.

Thomas "Ted" Daniels

Founded the song called, "Brother" in 1996. The song's popularity and message to fellowship led to its adoption at the 2001 Grand Chapter Conference as an officially recognized fraternal song.

Tammy Mleziva

The first female to become a National President of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity in 2002

Before, she was a National President, she had served as a National Secretary.

She was awarded the highest honor a Brother can acheive, the Distinguished Service Key in 2004.
