He attended Air & Space Basic Course in January, 2007, and was a Distinguished Graduate at the Aircraft Maintenance Officer's Course in July, 2007. In July 2007, he started dating his best friend and initiate classmate, Jessica Himel. They were married on July 18th, 2009, in Jessica's home church near New Orleans, Louisiana.
