Early Fraternity Life and Career

Sigma Initiate Class; Emily - front row, 3rd from left

Emily enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University in the Fall of 2005, after graduating from Grafton High School in Yorktown, Virginia. In the Spring of her sophomore year, Emily was looking for an organization that upheld certain ideals, and found it while walking through the Student Commons: Phi Sigma Pi. She was intrigued at an Honors Fraternity that was focused on Scholarship, Leadership, and Fellowship, academic excellence and its co-ed membership. After attending the Open Rush and meeting many new friends, she received a bid and rushed Spring 2007, and after a successful Initiate period, was inducted with the rest of the amazing Sigma class on April 22, 2007.

Collegiate Years at Alpha Sigma Chapter

While as an undergraduate Brother, Emily quickly stepped into a committee chair position was the Scholarship Chair for the Fall of 2007, having several successful events including the Arabic Film Festival and a Stress Seminar for the Brotherhood.

Emily after winning Best Booty Shaker Award, Fall 2008

For the Spring 2008 semester, Emily did not take a leadership position and gave other Brothers the opportunity to step up and further progress the fraternity. Although she was not in a leadership position, she still held one of the best attendance records in the Chapter. Emily stepped up as a Brother and a leader during a Fundraising Event that had not gone according to plan. That semester at the Chapter's Formal, she won the Most Improved Brother Award and Best Big & Little.

1st Annual Señorita Soiree, April 2009

For the 2008-2009 academic year, Emily is serving as the Vice President of the Chapter. She was a co-captain of Alpha Sigma's intramural volleyball team. At Fall 2008's Semi-Formal, Emily was awarded the Leadership Award & Best Booty Shaker. In the Spring of 2009, Emily stepped up her game and made improvements in her position as Vice President. After attending the Capital Regional Conference Feb. 20-22, she, along with Kayla Newberg and Ashley Blanks brought back a lot of information and a potentially new tradition to Alpha Sigma. Emily took a tradition from Beta Rho and on April 25, 2009, the first girls day, called the Señorita Soiree occurred. Emily hopes this will become a yearly tradition for the ladies in the Alpha Sigma Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi. On April 26, 2009, Emily officially became an Alumni of the Alpha Sigma Chapter. It was been an absolutely wonderful 2 years of her life and hopes to keep in touch with her lovely Brothers. At the Alpha Sigma formal on May 2, 2009, Emily took home the Outstanding Senior Award and Best Big & Littles, this time with Natalie Vazquez & Janie Molver.
