Students headed to D.C. (Times Reporter.com - 13 January 09)
Area college students Colleen Maleski (ΒΙ) of Tippecanoe and A. Jenna Puskarich of Cadiz are excited at the prospect of attending the presidential inauguration of Barack Obama. The women are among top college students from across the nation who were chosen by the University Presidential Inaugural Conference to witness the historic event Tuesday.

MLK Jr. day used for service (Red and Black.com - 20 January 09)
Over 700 volunteers united forces Monday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy as a part of Hands on Northeast Georgia's day of service. While some groups hauled mulch, pulled weeds and built a sandbox for the school's Pre-K, others hung red, white and blue streamers from classroom doors. "The connection [between Martin Luther King and Barack Obama] speaks for itself," said Emily Baggett (ΒΖ), as she reached up to secure some patriotic ornaments. Baggett, a junior from Warner Robbins, volunteered with her fraternity, Phi Sigma Pi.

Free Expression Section: Ladies' Week of Expression (The West Georgian - 20 January 09)
Aleta Watson (ΓΔ) is a remarkable and brilliant young woman with a very bright future. She is in her third year and is currently working on a Mass Communications degree with a minor in Sociology. Not only is Aleta an outstanding student, but also involved in several organizations such as Phi Sigma Pi (a national honors fraternity), Women of Diversity, and the NAACP.

Michelle Filling (ΑΕ) is an alumni of WCU and graduated in 2002. This year marked her 10th Bear Fair as a volunteer. As an undergrad she was the service chair of Phi Sigma Pi, national service fraternity, and also worked in the Office of Service-Learning. The reason that Filling keeps coming back every year is because she said she has personally seen how much it can help.

On Monday in the Charles V. Park Library Auditorium, Phi Sigma Pi (ΓΜ) members handed out packets of information as guests arrived. The packets included MADD statistics from the state campaign to eliminate drunk driving, and four letters addressed to Gov. Jennifer Granholm asking that more laws be passed to help prevent drunk driving from occurring.

On Wednesday, fellow members of honors fraternity Phi Sigma Pi (ΔΞ) joined her in as they bowled in Brady's Bowl Over Cancer, an event benefiting the American Cancer Society organized by the Student Union Programming Board.

The brisk weekend weather didn't stop about 30 runners from participating in Phi Sigma Pi's "Easy as Pi 5k Run/Walk" on Saturday at Island Park. Gamma Mu donated an estimated $600 to Teach For America through a silent auction and registration fees for runners.

Reason to run in Perry 5K (Collegiate Times - 29 September 08)
To honor his memory, Michael Perry's (ΑΡ) fraternity, Phi Sigma Pi, created the Michael B. Perry 5K Run and Walk. This year was the 11th annual event run by Phi Sigma Pi. The race has occurred every year since his fatal motorcycle accident.

Meghan Barnes (ΒΟ), is currently double majoring in creative writing with a focus in fiction and English literature, and minoring in global environmental geology. She writes for two local magazines, The Beat and Bootleg, and is also the fellowship chair of Phi Sigma Pi.

Malvern native returns as doctor (Malvern Daily Record - 20 August 08)
Dr. Dylan Thaxton, M.D. (ΓΛ), will be joining Dr. Burton at the Malvern Diagnostic Clinic. Thaxton was born and raised in Malvern and is a 1997 graduate of Malvern High School. Since 2001, Thaxton has been committed to come back to Malvern to practice medicine after receiving assistance for medical school from the Community Match Program.

The purpose of the event was two-fold, not only to entertain but to benefit a cause. Phi Sigma Pi (ΒΝ) donated the proceeds to its national philanthropy, Teach for America. Adam Berry (ΒΔ) stayed at Lee Field for more than 16 hours -- six of which were spent walking around the field to keep his team, Phi Sigma Pi, eligible to complete the Relay.
