Getting to know you...
Every Initiation program should dedicate itself to helping the Brothers and Initiates get to know one another. Through social activities, service events or fundraisers - much of this will come naturally. Another way to achieve this relationship building is through interviews. Have dinner together, go see a movie and get coffee later on or before hand. Make it relaxed and enjoyable for both of you. Becoming a Brother does not mean friendship is automatically bestowed upon you and the Initiates...it takes time to develop. If you choose to use the interview process, there are many standard fact type questions that will help you and the Initiate get to know each other better. They include questions about your majors, hometowns, family backgrounds, places you have travelled, other activities on campus, etc...
You can also make it more interesting by including less traditional questions, here are some examples...
Interview Questions
- 1.Tell me about a time when you accomplished something significant that wouldn't have happened if you hadn't been there to make it happen.
- 2.Describe a situation where you persuaded friends/team members to do things your way. What was the effect?
3.Why are manhole covers round? 4.Talk about a time when you had to overcome major obstacles. 5.Tell me about a time when you completed an essay or project that was well received. Why do you think it was successful? 6.Tell me about a time where you and a close friend had an arguement and if you regret it now? 7.If you had to relive that situation again, how would you do it differently? 8.What interests you about this fraternity? 9.Where does this fraternity fit into your college experience? 10.If you had to convince a friend or colleague to rush Phi Sigma Pi, what might you tell them? 11.What motivated you to come out to rush? 12.Is there intelligent life in outer space? 13.Imagine we've just inducted you. What's the most important thing on your to-do list on the first day as a Brother? 14.How would you handle a fellow Brother whose effort is fine but who you know has the potential to do better? 15.What would you do if you got behind schedule with your part of a project or responsibilty to the chapter? 16.But enough about you. What about us? Where do you think the chapter should be in two years? 21.What's your opinion of college? of our fraternity?
