Alpha Beta Golf Tournament

Event Type: Golf Tournament

Contributors: Alpha Beta Chapter (Spring 2007 Form 110)

Location: University of Maryland Golf Course

Planning required: Collaborative effort among Phi Sigma Pi and three other Greek letter organizations on campus. Planning began during the summer of 2006 (for the Spring 2007 tournament)

Event Summary: 34 golfers took part in the golf tournament and prizes were awarded for the top foursomes and for golfers who won various contests. Additional prizes were auctioned off to raise further money. Throughout the event, Teach For America publications were displayed to reiterate the importance of the event.

$1200 was raised for Teach For America with $800 of that amount donated to two Alpha Beta alumni who are TFA corp members. The corp members will used the money to integrate special projects into their classrooms. During the fall semester, the Alpha Beta chapter will accept proposals from TFA corp members in order to distribute the additional money that was raised.

Alpha Zeta Charity Golf Event

Event Summary: This is a charity golf event, aimed to raise funds for Teach For America. All proceeds from the event will be donated directly to the organization (TFA). The event is open to anyone, both golfers and non-golfers alike. The event will consist of four person teams, and will be played in a best ball format. Prizes will be offered on various holes throughout the course. The event will cost $100 per person, each participant will receive: 18-holes of golf, a cart, a complimentary gift bag (event shirt included), and a catered awards banquet following the event.

Tau Chapter Sweetheart Golf Classic

Event Type: Golf Tournament, Sweetheart Golf Classic

Average Amount Raised: $2,800

Location: Bradford Creek Golf Course

Resources required: Sponsors and golfers

Event Summary: The format of the tournament was four man team Superball. Along with tournament play, there were raffles, closest to the pin, and longest drive competitions. Lunch was provided as well as a free t-shirt with registration. Prizes included certificates for golf apparel and merchandise as well as rounds of golf. The chapter arranged to have a local restaurant cater the entire event. All profits of the tournament went towards the Todd Scholarship.The scholarship provides financial assistance to the officers of the ECU chapter of Phi Sigma Pi. It is our goal to help raise money for the scholarship fund so that the leaders of the chapter are able to be honored for their successes. The game is opened to Alumni, Brothers, Guests, and Community Members interested in supporting this worthy cause.

Contributors: The chapter offered several levels of sponsorship support which included Sweetheart level of $250 or more, Gold Level of $100-249 and the Purple level of at least $50.

The tournament received the 2008 Outstanding Fundraiser Award.
