Fraternity Life

Initiation

Mu Class singing Brothers Are We.

Joe Delozier joined Phi Sigma Pi for less than auspicious reasons. As a commuter student who lived an hour away he spent a lot of time hanging around the campus between classes with nothing to do. When he got a letter in the mail inviting him to join Phi Sigma Pi, he decided to see what it was. After the first meet night, he decided to give it a try on a day by day basis. Days led to weeks, which in turn became months, and before he knew it inductions were upon him.

Joe served as the Mu Class parliamentarian, though the post was relatively nominal as one of the first orders of business the Mu Class passed was to do away with Parliamentary procedure.

Brotherhood

He was a staple of the Awards & Scholarship committee (serving 3 semesters), and served on the Chapter Relations committee and the ad hoc Brotherhood committee. In 2004 he was elected to be the Chapter's Parliamentarian, and worked to clean-up and correct the Chapter's By-Laws which had become plagued with grammatical errors, inconsistencies, and out-dated policies. As a result of his efforts he was given the title of Supreme Chancellor by the brotherhood.

In the Fall of 2004 Joe Delozier, Rick Schaffer and Brian Fischer bonded over Family Guy, Kevin Smith films and Star Wars and began getting into various shenanigans. Seen by some as ne'er-do-wells and miscreants, they considered themselves good-natured goofs and never missed an opportunity to bring out the humorous side of a situation. Soon, more and more Brothers were either involving themselves in the shenanigans, or actively supporting their efforts. During the Fall 2004 semester, Joe and Brian would submit various Alumni Award nominations to the A&S chair, primarily as an excuse to write goofball introductions. Whenever they had an award category that didn't apply that week, they nominated themselves for completely nonsensical reasons. To their surprise and amusement, they began winning them. They quickly began spreading the wealth and began pushing the bounds of the award's legitimacy. Joe, Rick and Brian also pioneered the Semi-Formal/Formal entrances dressed in ostentatious formal wear, with a formal introduction and theme music.

Alumnus

After graduation, he remained an active alumni member of the Chapter, since many of his friends were still active brothers. In fact, he was so active that he met many event and attendance require of the active brotherhood and was given the inagural Most Active Alumni Award at Gamma Pi's 2006 Semi-Formal. In 2007 he was asked to serve on the fledgling Alumni Advisory Board and re-elected to the board in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
