Early Fraternity Life and Career
Krista decided to rush Phi Sigma Pi in the summer of 2003, right before her junior year at Montclair State. She thought it would be good to get involved on campus, since she was nearing the end of her college career. She inquired about the fraternity, and received many positive responses from PSP brother and classmate, Jessica Marini. In October of 2003, Krista became an initiate of Phi Sigma Pi as part of the Alpha Gamma class. Despite some minor (classes) and major (Mono)challenges, Krista managed to become a brother of Phi Sigma Pi, along with her two initiate classmates, Christina Lluveras and Marissa Bianco.
Collegiate Years at Alpha Iota
During her time as an undergraduate brother, Krista served in several committees, as both a chairperson and general member. In Spring 2004, she was a member of the ICR and Social Committees, and later joined the Service Committee, so that she could help plan and organize projects for the rest of the semester. In her senior year (2004-2005) Krista served as the Service Chairperson and a member of the Scholarship Committee.
Toward the end of the Fall 2004 semester, Krista wrote up an amendment to add a Rush Chairperson to Alpha Iota's Bylaws. She believed it would benefit the chapter since recruitment and initiation had fallen completely on the initiate advisor in the past. Knowing that other chapters utilized a Rush Chairperson and achieved much success, she believed it would be a positive change for Alpha Iota. Soon after the amendment was approved, she was elected as the first Rush Chairperson of the Alpha Iota Chapter for Spring 2005. Thanks to the help of Nationals, Alpha Iota Alumni, and many wonderful, dedicated active brothers, Alpha Iota was able to bring in over 90 interests, 33 of which came out for Bidding, and 26 initiates for the Alpha Zeta Class.
Krista graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelors of English and concentration in Creative Writing in May 2005. She then returned to Montclair in Fall 2005, to pursue her Masters in English (writing studies and composition).
