Dr. Leo W. Jenkins is an Alumni Member of Tau Chapter (T 1869). Dr. Jenkins was made an honorary Brother of Tau Chapter in spring 1972, but never signed the rollbook. When it was discovered his signature had not been obtained, a family member signed on his behalf.
Professional Life
Dr. Jenkins studied political science at Rutgers University, obtained a Master's from Columbia University, and a Doctorate from New York University before joining ECU as the Dean of the college in 1947. By 1955, he was named Vice President. In 1960, Dr. Jenkins was elected as the President, which would turn into Chancellor, a position he held until he retired in 1978. ECU grew and expanded tremendously during his tenure, including establishing university status and building a medical school.
