Tau Chapter sponsored an annual award for the Outstanding Senior Award to the top ranked male students on the East Carolina campus. Students did not have to belong to Phi Sigma Pi in order to be considered. In 1972, while still an all male fraternity, Tau Chapter began giving awards to the top ranked female student as well the top ranked male.
