Manny graduated High School from Ransom Everglades in Coconut Grove, FL in May 1996. He attended the University of Florida, where he got a Bachelors of Arts in Business with a specialization in Chinese Language and Literature, as a BS in International Business was not offered at that time. While there, he was in the Honors Program, inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, and an active Brother of Alpha Kappa Psi Alpha Phi Chapter. He was a member of the UF Sailing Team, placing nationally during his Freshman year as skipper in Team Racing. He interned extensively at Limited Brands’ International Trade and Customs Compliance BU. He graduated in May 2000 and thereafter moved to Beijing where he studied Mandarin Chinese at the University of International Business and Economics in Chaoyang. After several years in the workforce following return to the United States, Manny received a full scholarship to attend the University of Cincinnati MBA program where he led his team to winning the annual Case Competition. Manny has furthered his studies at the North Bennett Street School in Boston, MA learning traditional trades and Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Brother at Gamma Epsilon Chapter

Manny rushed Phi Sigma Pi in the Spring of 1997 after receiving a recruitment letter from the fledgling chapter. The chapter had failed to recruit a pledge class for several semesters and was pn probation with the national organization.

Manny’s first leadership role was as Awards, Alumni and Scholarship Chair. Very little structure existed in thr chapter and Manny set to sorting out what Alumni base could be useful to the chapter, reaching out fruitlessly to graduated and inactive brothers. As rush for the Beta Class began, Manny aggressively recruited like-minded individuals, forming a pledge class that outnumbered the active brotherhood. He began campaigning informally and then formally on a platform of creating a vibrant brotherhood in what was then not much more than an Honor Society. He was elected President largely by the Beta Pledge Class and a handful of Alpha and Charter brothers who shared his vision ans would help serve as the « Dream Team » for building the chapter into what it is today. Many of the programs: GETSLAM’D, formalized and strict pledging process, and Dance Marathon participation came about under his leadership. Much of the credit for creating a powerful sense of fraternity came from what he learned and borrowed from AKPsi’s very successful Alpha Phi chapter from which he was constantly under threat of being expelled for taking the social aspects too far.

That same semester, he was elected President of the Chapter for the next academic year. He ran on a platform of focusing on what was best for the chapter, and forgetting the wants of the national office. His tenure as President was widely seen as an entirely mediocre experience for all involved.
