MariAnne E. McDonald (15 May 1980 - 8 April 2001) was an Active Member of Beta Epsilon Chapter (ΒΕ 287) at Syracuse University. She passed away tragically while studying abroad in the spring of 2001.

Early Fraternity Life and Career

MariAnne came to Syracuse University in Fall 1998 from her hometown of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. Her major was Illustration. She entered Phi Sigma Pi in Spring 1999 with the Mu Class.

Collegiate Years in Beta Epsilon Chapter

MariAnne was co-chair of the Inter-Chapter Relations Committee her first semester as a brother, and then spent two semesters on the Historical Committee. MariAnne passed away in Spring 2001 while studying abroad in Florence, Italy. There is an olive tree, with a plaque, planted in the gardens outside the Studio Arts building of the SU Florence center in her memory. Beta Epsilon honors MariAnne by annually awarding a scholarship in her name.

According to fellow Beta Upsilon Brother Andrew Berman, "Marianne was the very essence of 'brother.' She exemplified the tripod, and lived her life in the spirit of fellowship."

When Ted Daniels heard about MariAnne's passing, he recorded himself singing Brother and sent the cassette to Beta Epsilon.
