Maryssa Slattery (born 27 July 1990) is an Alumni Member of Epsilon Eta Chapter (ΕΗ 48) at Eastern Kentucky University. She now currently resides in Louisville, KY.

Early Fraternity Life and Career

Maryssa decided to attend Eastern Kentucky University because it was the one campus that offer her major that also had the close knit feel that she longed for in a campus.

After starting school at EKU, Maryssa longed to be involved on campus. But, she didn't want to join just any organization or club. She was looking for an organization that would help her grow to her full potential, that would make her be a part of something greater than herself and her campus, that represented a motto or purpose that could help guide her life when she felt lost, and most of all, that would offer her a family and home to help guide her through her college years.

She went through rush for social sororities multiple times, but always ended up empty-handed. At this point she was not aware of any other organizations on campus that had all the items that she wanted and so became disheartened, fearing she would not have the type of college experience she longed for.

She had seen flyers for Phi Sigma Pi recruitment around campus the semester before she joined, but due to a number of class conflicts she did not have a chance that semester to come find out what Phi Sigma Pi was all about. In Fall 2009, she attended the Informational Session for Phi Sigma Pi. She decided to continue to come to rush events when she realized that Phi Sigma Pi did in fact fall under all the criteria of an organization that she wanted to spend her time with. But, she did not really fall in love until near the end of the rush week, between a hilarious game of "I Love My Brother Who..." and the amazing conversations she had during the Speed Interviews, Maryssa knew she finally found a place that she could call home.

Collegiate Years at Epsilon Eta Chapter

As a Brother, Maryssa has dedicated the majority of her time to the Chapter, ranging from looking up ideas to suggest to chairs for events to enthusiastically stepping up in positions that became vacated by Brothers who left during critical times. She throws herself into her positions with everything she has and loves every single one of the positions she currently and has formerly held.

Her favorite part of Phi Sigma Pi is the knowledge that she has a ready-made support system amongst the Brothers and the ways that her time spent in Phi Sigma Pi have helped her overcome her shyness and hesitancy towards doing things she would ordinarily never do.
