Omega Chapter (Founded 21 May 1955; Reactivated 22 October 1989) was located on the campus of Gorham State Teachers College, (renamed Gorham State College in 1968, later Gorham State College of the University of Maine, then University of Maine at Portland-Gorham, now part of the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine. The chapter was founded in 1955 when Omega Nu Epsilon Fraternity agreed to dissolve and become a chapter of Phi Sigma Pi. As part of the agreement, the chapter designations Chi and Psi were skipped so that Omega Nu Epsilon could become Omega Chapter and retain part of its original name. The chapter went inactive about 1969, most brothers becoming part of a local social fraternity, Gamma Nu. Phi Sigma Pi, as a chapter of the national fraternity was reactivated in 1989, but once more became inactive in 2001.

Chapter History

Founding

About 1949, a local social fraternity, Omega Nu Epsilon, was organized on the campus of Gorham State Teachers College in Gorham, Maine. This local fraternity became affiliated with Phi Sigma Pi as Omega Chapter in 1955, and remained active until the late 1960s, when all national fraternities on the Gorham campus were disbanded and replaced with local fraternities. Phi Sigma Pi brothers, for the most part, joined local fraternity Gamma Rho.

Early Years

The chapter's fraternity house was an a back portion of the Sawtelle House, c. 1800, originally the Isaac Dyer house, located today at 180 Fort Hill Road in Gorham, Maine. Omega Nu Epsilon rented part of the house, and later Omega Chapter did as well, until at least 1968.
