The role of the Recruitment Advisor is one of great responsibility. It can also be quite rewarding. The following document is a guideline to help you have a successful term as the Recruitment Advisor. The Following Document quickly lists some tips for holding a successful information session.

Information to present

  • Use a sign-in sheet to collect prospectives’ contact information.
  • Give each prospective a calendar of Rush Week events.
  • During your main presentation, provide prospectives with basic facts about Phi Sigma Pi, including the Fraternity’s ideals (Tripod) and the benefits they will receive as a Brother.
  • Highlight the fact that Phi Sigma Pi is a CO-ED & HONOR Fraternity.
  • Have Rush Chairs/Initiate Advisors explain the overall Recruitment process as well as what

prospectives can expect if they become initiates.

The Information Meeting

  • Remember that this is each prospective’s first chance to “meet” the Fraternity – focus on making a good impression!
  • It is also important for all prospectives to meet the Brothers in your chapter. Have Brothers wear letters and actually talk to them, not just to one another!

Do

Beta Kappa Rush, Fall 2008
  • Ask the Brotherhood to either a) dress up or b) wear letters
  • Look professional (no pajama pants)
  • Ask the prospectives to wear name tags
  • Require the Brotherhood to wear name tags
  • Offer food/snacks
  • Limit the number of speakers
  • Choose your best public speaker to be the “MC”
  • Make sure that each of the speakers is prepared with what will be said
  • Have both male and female Brothers speak (we are co-ed!)
  • Highlight the tripod
  • Give opportunity to ask questions

Don’t

  • Chew gum/eat while speaking
  • Tell inside jokes
  • Give a detailed history of Phi Sigma Pi
  • Decorate the room with feminine colors
  • Disrespect the National Fraternity
  • Be long-winded or disorganized
  • Rip on other organizations around campus (Fraternities, Sororites, etc; nobody likes an elitist)
  • Introduce the entire chapter and have them speak
  • Go on about how “it is such an amazing, incredible, wonderful, life-changing experience to be a brother” – they’ll figure it out!
