Recruitment Advisor
The role of the Recruitment Advisor is one of great responsibility. It can also be quite rewarding. The following document is a guideline to help you have a successful term as the Recruitment Advisor.
According to the Phi Sigma Pi National Constitution, there are two components of recruitment. It should be noted, however, that this document is not all-inclusive for each chapter. These should be considered the minimum components and your school/chapter may choose to assign further components at their discretion.

About Recruitment
Article IV, Section 10 of the Phi Sigma Pi National Constitution holds that:
- Each Collegiate Chapter shall hold a minimum of two (2) membership drives per academic year, with no more than one (1) membership drive held each quarter or semester. A membership drive consists of a rush period and an initiation period.
- The rush period begins on the date of the first advertised
Article IV, Section 11, Subsection A of the Phi Sigma Pi National Constitution holds that:
- Each Collegiate Chapter shall, at least,
- Hold two separate Information Sessions at the beginning of the rush period with the purpose of demonstrating to prospective Initiates both the ideals of Phi Sigma Pi and the requirements of the rush and Initiation processes
- Hold two rush events for the purpose of allowing prospective Initiates to become better acquainted with the Active Members.
About the Recruitment Advisor
Through the Recruitment Advisor, each prospective member will gain his/her first impressions and knowledge base of the organization. The spirit and attitude of the Recruitment Advisor and the chapter will become the spirit and attitude of the prospective member. Phi Sigma Pi has placed faith, trust, and confidence in every Recruitment Advisor. Each Recruitment Advisor is responsible for recruiting all interested new people, and introducing them to the responsibilities of being an initiate as well as an active member.
The duties of the Recruitment Advisor include, but are not necessary limited to, the following:
- Reviewing and updating the recruitment program of the chapter with the assistance of the recruitment committee.
- Maintaining and upholding the integrity of the rush program of the chapter in relation to the National Constitution, the rules of the sheltering institution, and any rules established by the chapter with the assistance of the recruitment committee.
- Planning, organizing and coordinating the chapter’s recruiting program, instilling a year-round awareness of its importance as well as implementing specific programs and scheduled activities.
- Increasing the effectiveness of the chapter’s recruitment, rather than doing most of the “recruiting” alone.
- Involving the entire chapter in recruiting, as well as coordinating communications with prospectives, recruiting publications, printed material and adherence to fraternity and campus regulations.
- Making sure all students who receive recommendations are contacted, and that all brothers sending recommendations receive an acknowledgment and notification of the outcome.
- Emphasizing the necessary awareness of academic and financial obligations, information to parents, and the values of fraternity membership in general, as well as specifically in Phi Sigma Pi.
Dual Recruitment Advisors
Some Chapters have dual or co-Recruitment Advisors. The roles can be split by work load, by seniority for mentoring, or just over lap for continuity.
Overlapping Roles
In overlapping roles a Chapter may decide to elect two Recruitment Advisors but stagger their terms. This may be accomplished by having one Advisor serve for an academic term (fall to spring semester or quarter) while the other serves for a calendar year term (spring to fall semester or quarter). This is done to ensure the office is properly transitioned as well as doubling the capacity for such an important role. Since the majority of this work happens at the very beginning of a semester or quarter this will allow the more recently elected of the two go through one recruitment drive with the support of a more experienced Advisor. This will then prepare them to be the more experienced one the following term, when a newly elected Advisor takes on the parallel role.
