Virginia Tech student and Blacksburg native Michael Perry (ΑΡ) was killed in a drunk driving accident 12 years ago. Perry is being honored at the 12th annual Michael B. Perry 5K Saturday, Oct. 3.

Lauren Conboy (ΒΕ), a senior biology major and the service chair for Phi Sigma Pi Honors Fraternity attended the event with 12 of her fellow members. Conboy is pre-med and said the medical research component of the event was one reason she got involved. The other - and more important motivation - is her seven-year-old cousin who died of cancer.

George Edward Johnson III (ΑΤ), the son of Grace and George E. Johnson Jr., received his commission into the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant. Johnson will work as an active duty Adjutant General in Germany, while studying to obtain his M.B.A. and J.D. from UCLA.
