Brandon Smith (born 19 May 1989) is an Alumnus of the Gamma Omicron Chapter (ΓΟ 596) at Auburn University.

Early Fraternity Life and Career

A life-long Auburn fan, Brandon decided to attend Auburn University in Spring 2007. This decision was made after comparing offers from both Auburn University and Mississippi State University.

Through his involvement in the FFA in high school, along with his work on his grandparents' beef cattle farm, Brandon developed an early interest in agriculture. He enrolled at Auburn University with intentions of pursuing a B.S. in Animal Sciences and a M.S. in Agriscience Education. Following this path, he would return home and teach agriscience course at Slocomb High School in Slocomb, AL. Once in Auburn, he was recruited to the Department of Agronomy & Soils and declared a double major in Fall 2007. This shift in focus, coupled with an ongoing undergraduate research project, altered his career path. Brandon is now pursuing dual degrees in Animal Sciences and Agronomy & Soils. He plans to graduate in Spring 2012. He will then pursue graudate degrees focusing on forage crops and their relation to livestock. Ultimately, Brandon wishes to be a professor of agriculture at a southeastern university.

Brandon, along with several of his friends, decided to rush Phi Sigma Pi in Spring 2008, one semester following its re-charter. He was inducted into the Tau Class in May 2008.


Collegiate Years at Gamma Omicron Chapter

Brandon has been an active participant in the development of the Gamma Omicron Chapter. Since his induction, Brandon has conducted extensive research into the history of the Chapter, mainly that before its deactivation. He has discovered and published the Initiate Class Letters for all classes of the Chapter and has uncovered many old yearbook entries. In addition to this work, he is currently designing a database that will streamline all Chapter records and documents into one system.

Brandon has served in several capacities of Chapter leadership:

  • Parliamentarian/Regional Delegate - 2009
  • Grand Chapter Delegate - 2009, 2010
  • President - 2009-10, 2010-11
  • Acting Region Delegate, 2011


He has also been recognized within the Gamma Omicron Chapter in its award ceremonies:

  • 2010 Brother of the Year (inaugural)
  • 2011 Heather Marie Hall Outstanding Executive Board Member
  • Chapter Service Key (2011)


Interesting Facts

  • Upon his re-election on March 30, 2010, Brandon became the first and only Brother of the Gamma Omicron Chapter to serve two terms as Chapter President.
  • The Brother of the Year Award in the Gamma Omicron Chapter bears Brandon's name.
  • Brandon's Wiki has been included in the Phi Sigma Pi Wiki's Featured Content as the Featured Page for Week 35, 2010.
  • Brandon was the first Brother of the Gamma Omicron Chapter to have bestowed upon him the Chapter Service Key.

Likes and Interests

  • Brandon is true and lifelong Auburn fan, through and through. In his time as a student at Auburn University, as of August 2010, he has yet to miss a home football game, and has travelled to away games at UGA, the University of Kentucky, and Mississippi State University.
  • Some of his hobbies being computers and design, Brandon has created the designs for a majority of the t-shirts for his Chapter.
  • A true jack-of-all-trades, Brandon has recently picked up the hobby of leathercraft.
  • Brandon owns three instruments: a guitar, a fiddle, and a banjo. Though he wants to play all three, he has yet to learn to play any of them.
