Zeta Gamma Charter Class

Zeta Gamma Chapter (Founded 21 April 2010) is located at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio. The chapter is a member of the Buckeye Region.

Chapter History

The Zeta Gamma chapter was originally founded during the spring of 2010 with # members. The Alpha class of this new chapter had 12 members, electing the following members into the following positions:

President Vice President Secretary Treasurer

Early Years

The 12 chartering members worked very hard to become an active chapter. In just one year, the chapter grew to double its size and win 22 awards from both Cleveland State University and Phi Sigma Pi. After three classes of members, the chapter went inactive after the spring of 2011 due to uninvolvement and participation issues.

The Active Chapter

The current chapter is a Phi Sigma Pi success story. While the chapter had been inactive, members from National Staff worked to reactivate the chapter on Cleveland State's campus. Many students who fulfilled the basic membership requirements were approached about joining Phi Sigma Pi, but 20 attended the first meeting. On April 23, 2013, the Epsilon Class was officially inducted into the brotherhood of Phi Sigma Pi.

The Epsilon class retained 13 of its original members and successfully recruited 21 new initiates into the Zeta Class. Their initiation took place on November 21, 2013.

A Commitment to Diversity and Inclusivity

Camilya Williams proposed the creation of a Diversity and Inclusivity Committee and a Diversity and Inclusivity Officer to the Executive Board in Fall 2019. They were created shortly thereafter, making Zeta Gamma one of the first chapters to do so. Camilya served as the chapter's first Diversity and Inclusivity Officer, but her dedication to these values was known well before through her outspoken nature. The chapter continues to actively create a safe space through education and advocating for all minorities, and publically announced its support of the Black Lives Matter Movement in the summer of 2020.

Brotherhood in the Time of COVID

With the rise of the coronavirus-19 pandemic, Cleveland State University transitioned to remote learning. The chapter remained resilient throughout this, hosting online events for members to safely participate in. During this time, My Brother's Keeper was created, an initiative to support members experiencing difficult moments in their lives. Recruitment Advisor Sammy Jammal successfully grew the chapter by 19 new members in the chapter's fully virtual recruitment season.

The Great Potpie Schism

Savannah L. Potter and Vic L. Eppler introduced Zeta Gamma's favorite pastime in 2020: the Salad vs Sandwich Debate. Brothers engage in lively, passionate debate over what foods and items should be classified as. The Chapter remains divided over the potpie, with many claiming it to be a salad, while some believe it to be a sandwich.
