2013 SAAC Events

From PhiSigmaPiWiki

January 2013: SAAC began the new year with a service event to honor the victims at Sandy Hook Elementary school. The PTA at the school called out for individuals to mail in snowflakes to create a winter wonderland for the students when they returned from the holiday break. Because of the overwhelming response to the project, the PTA closed snowflake admissions. SAAC members still made snowflakes and will display them at the university located in Johnson City as a showing of solidarity.

February 2013:

In honor of the Valentine's Day season, SAAC members got together for a night of food, fun, and fellowship in Limestone, TN. An Italian potluck was served and a variety of fun icebreakers and games were played throughout the night with prizes! Also, attendees gave good-old-fashioned Valentine's Day cards to each other.

March 2013: For SAAC's scholarship event, two of the members hosted an Irish-themed potluck and taught the attendees the essentials of home brewing. Equipment, ingredients, and processes were discussed. One of the highlights was practicing putting bottle caps on bottles.

April 2013: Two events were planned for the month of April. The first event was an on-going event dedicated to service. The Chapter challenged the Epsilon Xi chapter to see who could collect the most Hershey candy bars to benefit a project of the Mission of Hope - Philippines. The winner of the challenge will be announced on April 20 at Epsilon Xi's Founders' Day formal. The second event was a recruitment event for those alumni from the Epsilon Xi Chapter that were celebrate Founders' Day.

May 2013: This month's event was dedicated to the social leg of the tripod. SAAC Members, two new alumni members, and Nick Christy joined in on the fun of celebrating Cinco de Mayo at one of Johnson City's favorite Mexican restaurants, El Charolais (or El Torito's/El T's/El Kroger). The group had a great time with food and fellowship at this event.

June 2013: During the month of June, many SAAC Members attended the 2013 Alumni Convention. We had a great time meeting with other Alumni from around the country.

SAAC's June event was a social event in Knoxville, TN at Wasabi's Hibachi Grill. Members who attended 2013 Alumni Convention met up with other SAAC Members for the occasion. It was a great afternoon of entertainment and fellowship!

July 2013 Due to the travels of most of the SAAC Members, the Chapter did not hold an event.

August 2013 Four of SAAC's Members (Ryan Alexander,Joanne Lamb, Josh Moore, and Jillian Quirante) attended 2013 National Convention in Philadelphia, PA. They enjoyed getting to spend time with other Brothers from around the nation. A favorite moment of the trip for these members was watching the Epsilon Xi Chapter receive their first two National awards, including the Joseph Torchia Award.

September 2013 Members of SAAC and a couple of undergraduate Brothers came together for a discussion on StrengthsFinder 2.0. Event attendees read StrengthsFinder 2.0 and took the Clifton Strength Assessment. During the discussion, we talked about each others themes of strengths and how those effect us as an organization.

October 2013 For the October service event, SAAC Members participated in the East Tennessee State University Holiday Food Drive. Members brought canned and boxed goods to donate to the Staff Senate of the university to assist in making holiday food baskets benefiting ETSU faculty, staff, students, and other members of the community.

November 2013 SAAC had two fellowship events in November. The first event was the Chapter's annual retreat at Roan Mountain, TN. Members had a wonderful time hanging out, eating, and playing board/card games. The second event was held after the Epsilon Xi's Thankgiving Lunch Alumni Event. Members and guests saw The Hungers Games: Catching Fire during its opening weekend. Everyone looked forward to seeing it and it turned out to be an amazing movie (some say even better than the first movie). Afterward, we all went out to eat at Smokey Bones before heading home. It was a PSP filled day.

December 2013 SAAC sponsored a Leadership in Action module ("Decisions, Decisions, Decisions") in the middle of the month at ETSU's campus. The LiA module was facilitated by Joanne Lamb. Several SAAC members and a few Epsilon Xi Brothers attended this event.
