Beta Kappa Chapter S-Family

The S Family was not an official family given to its founder, Brian Mock. The family rapidly expanded as its members remained active in the chapter and took on Littles that were equally active. Brian himself was a very active Brother; he served as parliamentarian for one year, president for a year and a half, and alumni advisor for two years. He was also the first recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award given by Beta Kappa.

Brian Mock's freshman year roommate in Holmes Hall was Jonathan Larkby, an active Brother of Beta Kappa. Larkby began calling Brian "Squiddy" as a way to annoy him. Brian was introduced to people as "Squiddy" and the name quickly stuck. Unfortunately for Jonathan, Brian didn't mind it very much. When Brian took on his first Little, he gave him a gift of a box of skeet. This eventually led to the nickname of "Skeeter". Since then, all members of the S Family have been given "S" names chosen for them by their Big.
