Past Chapter Presidents

The Colin Dolehanty Tripod Scholarship

This award is named for a Beta Sigma Chapter Charter Member, Colin Dolehanty, who selflessly dedicated his life to the advancement of the Beta Sigma Chapter and the opportunities it affords the men and women of Michigan State University. He was also a man who demonstrated the ideals of the Fraternity: scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. After his untimely death, Colin's parents decided to give back to the organization for which he loved and cared. Each year at the Beta Sigma Founder's Day Banquet, the Dolehantys award this scholarship to the Chapter Brother who best exhibits the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and fellowship.

Chapter Events & Activities

Founder's Day

The Beta Sigma Chapter celebrates its founding typically on the weekend closest to March 19 each year. The event is commemorated with a banquet dinner and awards ceremony where the Beta Sigma Service Key Award is presented as well as the The Colin Dolehanty Tripod Scholarship.

Pi Mile 5K Run/Walk

The annual Pi Mile 5K Run/Walk is held every fall semester. The Brothers of Beta Sigma plan, organize, and execute the race which runs through MSU's campus with the proceeds benefiting a worthy cause. This past year, the 10th Annual Pi Mile raised over $6,000 for APAIDSCON, an organization dedicated to eradicating HIV/AIDS in India. The previous year, the 9th Annual Pi Mile raised over $5,000 for Teach For America and was endorsed by the Michigan Surgeon General and the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Health. The event also won Best Teach For America Program at the 2007 National Convention.

Teeter-Totter-A-Thon

The Teeter-Totter-A-Thon takes place every spring semester. A teeter-totter is placed in the middle of the Auditorium Field on MSU's campus on which Brothers must ensure two people are teeter-tottering for 24 straight hours. Through business sponsorships, donations, and, in 2007, a children's carnival, Teeter-Totter-A-Thon raises money for a local charity. The 11th Annual event in 2007 raised $2,000 for the Help A Willing Kid foundation based out of Lansing, Michigan.
