Brian enrolled at the University of Delaware in Fall 2008 after graduating from Toms River High School School North in Toms River, New Jersey. As a freshman, he was still trying to find his niche at the university when he was told about the fraternity and saw a flier detailing Phi Sigma Pi's Open Rush. He rushed Phi Sigma Pi in Spring 2009 after attending an Information Session organized by the Initiate Co-chairs and because he liked the combination of scholarship, leadership and fellowship.
