Cristy Vallejos (born 18 November 1986) is an Active Member of Beta Iota Chapter (ΒΙ 311) at The Ohio State University. She is from Reynoldsburg, Ohio and graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 2005.

Early Fraternity Life and Career

Before joining Phi Sigma Pi, Cristy was interested in Greek life but thought that it just didn't feel like the right fit for her. She received an email from Phi Sigma Pi and went to the rush events. After meeting some of the Brothers she felt like this organization was the organization she was looking for and decided she wanted to get involved. As an Initiate, she was very active, in great part because her Big, Tom Midle, was so outgoing and encouraging. Cristy joined Phi Sigma Pi in Winter 2007 and was inducted along with the other members of the Alpha Gamma class (put your gamma face on!).

After being a Brother for one quarter she decided she wanted to have a leadership role and ran for the position of Awards and Recognition Chair. As the Awards and Recognition Chair for the 2007-2008 school year she was responsible for planning the end of the quarter banquets as well as awarding Brothers who went above and beyond in Scholarship, Leadership and Fellowship, as well as Brothers who went to the most Phi Sigma Pi events.

When the Programming Chair for the 2007-2008 year graduated in the Winter of 2008, Cristy ran as the Programming Chair for Spring quarter. As Programming Chair she planned new events that Beta Iota had not done before, and later was reelected to the position for the 2008-2009 school year. She and her committee are currently working hard to plan great, unique events, and they are awesome at it!

She attended the 2008 National Convention along with four other Brothers from her Chapter. Her time in Nashville was amazing and it strengthed the love she has for Phi Sigma Pi and has made her want to work harder for the Chapter to gain the national recognition that she knows they deserve.

Collegiate Years at The Ohio State University

When Cristy started college at Ohio State, she was an International Studies major and Spanish minor. However after studying abroad in Spain during the summer of 2007, she decided to make her minor a major. She loves Spanish so much that she is hoping to continue her studies in Spanish after she graduates with a Master's degree, studying Spanish identity and the effects of regionalism and immigration.

Other organizations that Cristy has been involved in include the Honors & Scholars Overnight Host Program in which prospective students are invited to spend the night with a current student and go to class with them the next day in order to get a better feel for what life is like at Ohio State. Her freshman year she was a host and during her sophomore and junior years she was a coordinator for the organization. She acted as a liaison between prospective students and hosts, matching the prospective students with their hosts and was in charge of making sure the overview program ran smoothly.

In the summer of 2008, Cristy began working two jobs at the university. The first is Telecounseling through the Undergraduate Admissions and First Year Experience program. As a Telecounselor, Cristy communicates with prospective students and makes sure they have all the necessary information about Ohio State in order to make an informed decision about their college career. She is currently on leave from Telecounseling to focus more on her studies and graduate school applications.

Her second job is at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies where she works as a student worker. Some of her tasks include answering phones and making copies, but this summer she was a researcher for the Center's Director, Professor Richard K. Herrmann. She assisted Professor Herrmann with his Political Science 545 class (Foreign Policy Decision Making), and updated his lectures as well as provided necessary information to the teams in his diplomatic simulation.
