Gamma Sigma Chapter (Founded 3 April 1997) is located at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. The Chapter was founded by David Adam Crumbliss and is a member of the Central Region.

Chapter History

Founding

The date was April 3, 1997. Seventy-eight students that happened to have a 3.0 GPA were inducted into an “Honor Fraternity.” Ya’ know, pay the dues, get the certificate, never do anything, right? Definitely wrong! With only 6 weeks to go in the semester, we had a Brotherhood to begin.

The task before us was to get a bunch of “smart kids” to want to spend time- a lot of time- with one another. Not only in meetings and at “events,” but also at dinner, on campus, at parties (lots of them), and even in our homes as a “surrogate family;” as a Brotherhood. We began with a fund-raiser here and a service project there. What we quickly became was a circle of friends. Soon we found ourselves embroiled in one another’s lives. We found ourselves partying together, serving together, and learning together.

As we concluded our first year, we still actively had 50 of our 78 Founders, all 5 members of our Beta class, and all 17 members of our Gamma class. We had hosted a strong national event celebrating our Founder’s Day with Brothers attending from as far away as Pennsylvania, Maryland and North Carolina and, as close as Beta Chapter in Kirksville, MO and Gamma Rho Chapter from Western Michigan State. Our young Chapter had a close-knit bond and desire to make our mark on our national Brotherhood. Not bad for people that initially just wanted to pay their dues and go on about life.

Our Brotherhood is a circle of fellowship. It extends across generations. From Gene Seevers, Alumni initiated in 1951 that recently won the fight to reactivate our Alpha Chapter at CMSU, to the latest person to sign the Roll Book and accept membership in our Brotherhood of Gamma Sigma Chapter at Missouri State, Susanne Nicole (Nikki) Anderson. But it is more than that. Our Brotherhood is a reflection of the beliefs, values, principles, and actions that our members portray in their daily lives. Our Brotherhood is what helped me survive the loss of my role model- my grandfather- in February of 1998. No other organization can match the outpouring of support, love, care and guidance I received from Phi Sigma Pi.

Phi Sigma Pi is a group of men and women that are dedicated to being good leaders, good scholars, and good people through all of their interactions with others. We passionately demonstrate our commitment to others through community service both privately and as a group. We believe in the power of individuals working together toward a common vision, consistently striving to make a positive difference. We believe it is only done right when it is fun and personally fulfilling. We believe in empowering our members and trust them to protect the future of our fraternity. In short, we believe in the power of people, and we always have a good time. From the annual Phi Sigma Pi Sleep Out for Habitat for Humanity and food drives, to parties, annual 22nd birthday party bowling, and the annual Circle of Brothers Celebration, we always make the most of the time we spend together.

This is Gamma Sigma Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi. These are my brothers (both male and female). This is a national Brotherhood for life.

Chapter Events & Activities

Founder's Weekend

Gamma Sigma celebrates the Chapter's founding near the beginning of April, when Gamma Sigma was founded. The weekend consists of Induction on Friday night, a formal dance on Saturday night, followed by a social gathering afterward. Brothers from across the country are invited to come join us in celebrating our Founder's Day.

Sleepout for the Homeless

This event is held once each year, typically in the Spring. Brothers camp out an entire evening, staying up all night to collect donations. We give 100% of the donatitions to Habitat for Humanity where the money goes to help those without a home.
