The role of the Recruitment Advisor is one of great responsibility. It can also be quite rewarding. The following document is a sample outline to use as a template for an information session for perspective members during rush/recruitment.

Gamma Phi Rush, Fall 2008

Information Session Outline

Greeting and Mingling

This is something in which the entire chapter particpates in. As prospectives walk in, they should be greeted by professional-looking people. Approach them, shake their hands and introduce yourselves. Invite them to take a name tag and the following four flyers:

  • Prospective Member Profile
  • Rush Calendar
  • Initiate Financial Information
  • Fast Facts about Phi Sigma Pi

Each of these files is available in the “Brothers Only” section of www.phisigmapi.org. After they have a name tag and the flyers, invite them to take a seat. You want to be welcoming. Don’t stand in a corner and laugh among yourselves. It will give the prospectives the impression that you’re laughing at them. It’s rude, immature and unfriendly – it is not Phi Sigma Pi!

Welcome & Overview of Phi Sigma Pi

This is something that can be done by the Chapter President, or the most well spoken brother. This is a quick synopsis of what we are. You’ll want to give a brief description of the Phi Sigma Pi Tripod and how we translate that into events. You’ll want to mention that we are a National Fraternity with Chapters all over the United States. You’ll want to remind them that we’re co-ed and remind them of the minimum GPA and credits requirements. This speech should last about 5 minutes – MAXIMUM!

Description of Recruitment Process by the Recruitment Advisors

At this point, the Recruitment Advisors will ask the prospectives to pull out the sheets they were given during “greeting & mingling”. The Recruitment Advisors will go through each of these sheets, in brief. This is to prepare the prospectives for the coming weeks and excite them about the rush process. This description should last 8 minutes maximum!

Introduction of Initiate Advisor Initiate Advisor

This is a quick introduction of the person they’ll see most throughout the Initiation Program. You do not have to say more than “we will meet once a week to talk about Phi Sigma Pi and prepare you for active membership in our Chapter.” Do NOT go into detail about the quizzes, the National Exam, the events, etc. It’s too much to handle at once. This introduction should last about 4 minutes – MAXIMUM!

Question & Answer Session Entire Chapter

This gives an opportunity for prospectives to walk around and meet a variety of Brothers. Invite them to stick around, ask questions, and get to know the Brotherhood. Make sure that Brothers are mingling.
