Early Life and Fraternity

Lauren was born in McKinney, Texas, but lived most of her younger years in Denton, her current home. She has one younger brother, Ross, born March 3, 1997.

From an early age, Lauren always loved creative writing, art, and learning. After her younger brother was born, she began developing her drawing style with her newfound free time. She began kindergarten at Argyle Elementary School, where she soon discovered her interest in writing short plays, poetry, and short stories. Throughout her elementary education, she explored both of these interests. But she found that she was becoming bored with elementary level work. So after fourth grade, she left public school and transferred to a local private school, where she remained through seventh grade.

In seventh grade, she took the SAT through Duke TIP. Several months later, at the end of the school year, she decided to leave that private school and again transferred, but this time to a prep school near Dallas. In doing so, she skipped eighth grade and began nineth grade at the age of 13.

By this time, Lauren had stopped writing plays and showed interest in writing her first book. She achieved that goal in December of 2006, with her short novel for older children entitled Like a Rose. For a few months during that same year, her parents attempted to homeschool her, but Lauren discovered that she had become too accustomed to being around people, and returned to private school to complete nineth grade there.

It was hardly before the end of that school year when Lauren and her parents began to discuss the possibility of taking a few classes at the University of North Texas the following semester. Lauren again took the SAT and was accepted into the Honors' College shortly after her fourteenth birthday. During that same summer, she wrote her first complete novel, The Phantom's Lullaby. Lauren began her first semester at UNT in the fall taking 11 hours, planning to major in English with a focus in Creative Writing.

After one successful semester, Lauren decided that she wanted to be more involved on campus, and in February of 2008, she received an email from the Honors' College about a national co-ed honor fraternity called Phi Sigma Pi. With her parents' permission, she rushed with them and was initiated soon after. Her two Bigs were Jessica Parker and Katherine Emery. Finding many great friends there who did not judge her based on her age, Lauren stayed with Phi Sigma Pi. She was inducted on April 20, 2008.

Collegiate Years at Delta Kappa

Lauren's first semester as a Brother was Fall of 2008. During that semester, she served as Chair of the Service Committee, and helped organize Turkey Hunt (a canned food drive), Boo Bash (a children's Halloween Festival), and a School Supply Drive to benefit Teach for America.

This semester (Spring 2009), she is again the Service Committee Chair and looks forward to a number of upcoming events her committee has organized. She also serves as a member on the Rules and Standards Committee. In her free time, she works towards finishing her high school credits so that she can officially get her diploma, and writes her latest novel, Butterfly.
