Nhu Lan Phan (born 6 July 1987) is an Alumni of Delta Kappa Chapter (Chapter roll #) at The University of North Texas.

Early Life

Nhu Lan was born and raised in West Texas in a very small town called Andrews, known mostly for their "love of God and free enterprise." Most people have never heard of Andrews unless it is related to its closest cities, Midland and Odessa. She focused much of her energy in school, graduating 6th in a class of about 200 (~ top 3%).

Nhu Lan attended elementary school at Clearfork Elementary, middle school at Andrews Middle School, and high school at Andrews High School (Home of the Mustangs). While in high school, she was an active member in the Spanish club, Interact club, and a member of the Varsity Golf team that placed 3rd at State in 2004. She had the opportunity for a full scholarship to play golf in college but turned it down to focus solely on academics. She was also a member of the Mighty Mustang Band as a trumpet player and a member of the color guard; she was also voted Band Sweetheart her senior year. She also worked through her senior year of high school as a Librarian's Assistant at the Andrews County Library.

Collegiate Career

  • The University of Texas at Dallas (August 2005 - December 2005)
  • Tarrant County College (January 2006 - August 2007)
  • The University of North Texas (August 2007 to present)

Upon graduation from Andrews High School in 2005, Nhu Lan attended the University of Texas at Dallas, double majoring in Biology and Business Administration. Despite the creation of lifelong friendships and her love for the university, matters arose causing her to transfer schools. She attended Tarrant County College (South, Northeast, and Northwest campuses) completing her freshman and sophomore classes. In fall 2007 she transferred to the University of North Texas to complete her BS Biology degree with emphasis on Optometry. While attending college she has worked as a Teacher's Assistant at Sylvan Learning Center in North Fort Worth and also as Grader and eventually Administrative Coordinator for Kumon Math and Reading Center of Denton.

The Road to Phi Sigma Pi

On the way to her bus stop after class, she was frantically stopped by a table (Candiace Terry and Victoria Jones) at the Free Speech area outside the Union advertising Phi Sigma Pi Honor Fraternity. Being that academics was extremely important to her, she immediately took an avid interest in this fraternity. She weighed the pros and cons of joining such an organization. Soon after this moment, she was an Initiate of the Omicron class and was later inducted into the Delta Kappa Chapter of Phi Sigma Pi.
