The Year 1987 in review for Phi Sigma Pi.

1987

  • Revitalization of the fraternity begins. The "Great Expansion Period", the largest stretch of new chapter activations ever experienced by the fraternity, begins with the reactivation of Omicron Chapter at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania on March 1. This period would last until around the year 2000 when expansion slowed significantly. During these 14 years, 98 new chapters would be chartered or reactivated. Only 11 would go inactive. The fraternity would grow from 6 to 93 active chapters.
  • Jeffrey L. Johnson is appointed Eastern Regional Director by the National Council due to his success with reactivating Omicron and Rho Chapters. This is the first time a Regional Director had been appointed since before World War II.

March

  • March 1 - Omicron is reactivated at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania
  • March 25 - Rho is reactivated at the University of the District of Columbia
