Chapter Hop

History

Formed through ideas generated by Brothers Brandon Langenberg and Michelle Rodgers during the Southwest Region Conference in Lubbock, TX, in Spring 2009, Chapter Hop is an event meant to help Chapters connect during the Fall semesters. When the Lonestar Region was included in the Southwest Region, Chapters in the Southwest Region were so far spread apart that many Brothers wished they had a chance to meet more than once per year at the regional conference. Thus, Chapter Hop was born. The first Chapter Hop was held December 4-6th, 2009, and was hosted by the Delta Kappa Chapter at University of North Texas in Denton, TX.

Chapter Hop follows some ideas of Region Conferences by holding Scholarship, Leadership, and Fellowship events, but differs in that it is hosted on or around the hosting Chapter's campus and visiting Brothers are housed by local Brothers. Chapter Hop also serves to give other Chapters in the region an idea of the culture, community, history, and etc. of the other Chapters in their region. Thus, an importance is placed on being housed by Brothers of the hosting Chapter, tours of the hosting Chapter's campus and/or community, and more.

2009 Events

• Chapter Hop hosted by the Delta Kappa Chapter at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX.
  • Registration mixer at The Boiler Room, featuring hors d’euvres, cash bar, and music.
  • Campus tours led by Delta Kappa Brothers.
  • Scholarship Event: Touring the Square/Downtown Denton, Courthouse museum, Denton history
  • Leadership/Service Event: Writing holiday letters to the troops
  • Fellowship Event: Banquet, also to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the Delta Kappa Chapter.
  • Auction benefiting Teach For America during banquet. Items auctioned included a handmade quilt of Phi Sigma Pi t-shirts, hand-painted Phi Sigma Pi crests, a handmade shield, and more.

2010 Events

• Chapter Hop hosted by the Delta Phi Chapter at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX.
  • Registration picnic on the Texas State campus.
  • Campus tours led by Delta Phi Brothers.

  • Fellowship Event: Tubing down the Comal River
  • A murder-mystery barbeque dinner, complete with "southern" attire.
