Early Fraternity Life and Career

Julie decided to attend Eastern Illinois University in the Fall of 2001, where she enrolled as an Elementary Education major. After looking for a group to get involved with, she found out about Phi Sigma Pi during the spring semester of her freshman year. Julie was inducted as a Brother on April 23, 2002 as a member of his chapter's Mu pledge class. Her big brother is Jillian Kern. Julie graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education on December 9, 2005.

Collegiate Years at Beta Omega Chapter

Julie wasted no time in getting completely involved with Phi Sigma Pi. During her first year as an active member she served as the co-chair for a new Special Events committee, which was responsible for planning all Homecoming events in the fall and planning Formal in the spring. She was then elected to positions on the executive board where she served as Treasurer (2003-2004), Vice President (Fall 2004), and President (Spring 2005). Along with all of these positions, she also served on the Judicial Board, served as the delegate at the 2004 Grand Chapter, and served as her chapter's Regional Delegate from 2003-2005.

Julie was presented with several awards throughout her years as an active member. In 2004 she was voted Most Dedicated Brother, Brother of the Year, and also received the Presidents Award. In 2005, she was voted Most Charitable Brother, Most Dedicated Brother, and Most Spirited Brother.

In addition to her involvement with Phi Sigma Pi, Julie was involved in many other organizations. Julie was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (a service-based sorority) in which she served as the Recording Secretary; she was a member of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society, in which she served as the Membership Coordinator; she was a memeber of the Association for Childhood Education, in which she served as the Publicity Chair and Treasurer; and she also was a member of Kappa Delta Pi (Education Honor Society) and the National Society for Collegiate Scholars.
