Marcus Hosteen (born October 28) is an Active Collegiate Member of the Delta Iota Chapter of Phi Sigma Phi National Honor Fraternity at New Mexico State University [1].

Early Fraternity Life and Career

Marcus Hosteen was born in Cortez, Colorado but grew up in Shiprock, New Mexcio. He attended Shiprock High School in Shiprock, New Mexico and graduated on May 22, 2010 at the top of his class, Valedictorian with a 4.067 GPA. During his time at Shiprock High School Marcus was elected to the Student Council where he served as the Student Council Treasurer and Representative before being elected Student Body President in 2007 and served an unprecedented 3 terms. Marcus also worked at the Office of Navajo Nation Scholaship and Financial Assistance (ONNSFA) where he decided that he wanted to attend New Mexico State University and after graduating from Shiprock High School received the Chief Manueltio scholarship from the Navajo Nation.

He came to New Mexico State University because of scholarship money and it was the furthest he could get away from home while still remaining in New Mexico. For his first year Marcus focused mostly on his classes but by his second year got involved in a lot of student organizations. It was during this time that Marcus first heard of Phi Sigma Pi and after meeting with Cynthia Mondragon, the Recruitment Advisor she convinced him to give the Fraternity a chance.

Marcus' Big Brother during his initiate process was Travis D. Gee. Marcus successfully completed the Initiation Process was inducted into the Fraternity in Fall 2011.

Collegiate Years at the Delta Iota Chapter

Marcus is a Crimson Scholar at New Mexico State University with a cumulative GPA of 3.500. Each semester Marcus takes on a full load of courses, and on occasion has been known to voluntarily tackle 21 credit hours.

Marcus Hosteen has been a member of the Alumni Relations, Fundraising and Social Committee. One of his greatest accomplishment was assisting the Social Committee Chair, Megan Atencio in putting together the Winter Formal in December 2013. Another accomplishment of Marcus Hosteen was his significantly updates the Chapter's wiki page and is working on reconstructing the Delta Iota Chapter Family Trees.

On the National Level Marcus Hosteen represented the Delta Iota Chapter at the 2013 Grand Chapter and also attended the 2013 National Convention which will be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from August 1 to August 5, 2013.

  • Marcus is full blooded Native American, he is Navajo and takes pride in his cultural heritage.
  • Marcus' favorite show is Days of our Lives, he started watching in 2000 with his grandmother. He is also a fan of General Hospital.
  • Marcus was elected Homecoming King in high school, he had been nominated twice before winning, and was nominated for Prom King.
  • Marcus was the first recipient of The Paideia Award which is given to a brother who best demonstration Leadership skills and outstanding commitment to Service
