Marcus Hosteen (born October 28) is an Alumni Member of the Delta Iota Chapter of Phi Sigma Phi National Honor Fraternity at New Mexico State University [1].

Early Fraternity Life and Career

Marcus Hosteen was born in Cortez, Colorado but grew up in Shiprock, New Mexcio. He attended Shiprock High School and graduated on May 22, 2010 at the top of his class and Valedictorian with a 4.2 GPA. Marcus worked at the Office of Navajo Nation Scholaship and Financial Assistance where he made the decision to attend New Mexico State University and upon graduation he received the Chief Manueltio Scholarship from the Navajo Nation.

He came to New Mexico State University because of scholarship money and it was the furthest he could get away from home while still remaining in the state of New Mexico. For his first year Marcus focused mostly on his classes but by his second year become involved in a lot of student organizations. It was during this time that Marcus first heard of Phi Sigma Pi and after meeting with Cynthia Mondragon, the Recruitment Advisor who convinced him to give the Fraternity a chance. Marcus' Big Brother during his Initiate Process was Travis D. Gee. Marcus successfully completed the Initiation Process was inducted into the Fraternity in the fall of 2011.

Collegiate Years at the Delta Iota Chapter

Marcus Hosteen was very active within the Delta Iota Chapter, attending virtually every event the Delta Iota Chapter held. In spring 2013, he won the first ever Paideia Award which is given to a brother who best demonstrates Leadership skills and outstanding commitment to Service and the welfare of humanity.

Marcus severed a number of leadership positions including the following:

  • Treasurer (2012-15)
  • Secretary (2014)
  • Vice President (2013-14, 2015)
  • President (2014)
  • Parliamentarian (2014)
  • Leadership and Service Chair (2012-15)
  • Fundraising Projects Chair (2012-15)

Marcus has been instrumental in updating the Delta Iota Chapter’s wiki page and the reconstruction the Family Trees of the Delta Iota Chapter. Marcus has enjoyed his time with the Delta Iota Chapter with some of his favorite events being the semester Brothers in Bonding (BIB) Retreat and participation in Community Service events such as Relay for Life and Dress A Child. Out of the positions Marcus has held, the two favorites he had we Vice President and Leadership and Service because these position gave him the opportunity to do the most good for the Delta Iota Chapter.

Aside from his involvement in Phi Sigma Pi, Marcus has been active in other Student Organizations at New Mexico State University which include the following:

Marcus' Grand Big is Amanda Villaseñor (Nu Class, Alumnus)

Marcus' Big is Travis D. Gee (Rho Class, Alumnus), Marcus was his third Little. When Travis graduated in May 2012 Marcus was adopted by Megan Atencio (Rho Class, Alumnus) as his Second Big.

  • Marcus is full blooded Native American, he is Navajo and takes pride in his cultural heritage.
  • Marcus' favorite show is Days of our Lives, he started watching in 2000 with his grandmother. He is also a fan of General Hospital.
  • Marcus was elected Homecoming King in high school, he had been nominated twice before winning the title, and he was nominated for Prom King.
