Megan Purkey (born 13 July 1986) is an Alumna of Gamma Pi Chapter (ΓΠ 202) at Towson University.

Early Fraternity Life and Career

After deciding to become an elementary education major, Megan chose to attend nearby Towson University. She joined the marching band as a freshman, playing the piccolo, and continued through her sophomore year. That spring, a fellow flute player told her about Phi Sigma Pi at a pep band game and they attended the meet night together. Megan was inducted with seven others as the Sigma Class of Gamma Pi in May 2006. She graduated in May 2008 with a B.S. in elementary education and an English/creative writing minor. Megan is currently teaching first grade at Glyndon Elementary School in Baltimore County.

Collegiate Years at Gamma Pi Chapter

Megan jumped right into office in their relatively small chapter. Her first semester as an Active Brother (Fall 2006), she served as co-chair of the Alumni Committee. She continued as Alumni Chair and Rush Advisor in Spring 2007, playing an instrumental role in planning Gamma Pi's 10th Founder's Day Anniversary celebration and Alumni Reunion. Megan served as Gamma Pi's President and returning Alumni Chair in Fall 2007 and continued as President in the Spring of 2008. She has attended three National Conventions, and served as her Chapter's Delegate to the Grand Chapter Conference in 2007. In her Chapter, Megan is known for her spirit, revamping their Alumni program, and enthusiasm for Inter-Chapter events. As a result, there are few ICR events she and her Chapter will turn down, regardless of location. Megan has been recognized with several Gamma Pi awards, including Gamma Pi Mascot (Fall 2006, Spring 2007), Most Enthusiastic (Fall 2006, Spring 2007), and Most Creative (Spring 2007). She received the Leadership award in Fall 2007 and Spring 2008. She has also received a variety of weekly awards, such as "Brother of the Week," "M&M" (enthusiasm), "Striker" (passion for a cause), and "Buttercup" (travel), named after alumni who display these characteristics.

National Involvement

This will be Megan's first semester serving on the National Development Committee. She attended the 2006 National Convention, the 2007 National Convention and Grand Chapter Conference as Gamma Pi's Delegate, and the 2008 National Convention as an alum. Megan has made numerous road trips to other Chapter's events, including Tau, Alpha Beta volleyball, Alpha Eta's Hope Bowl, Gamma Xi and Alpha Lambda's Philly Cup, Alpha Pi's Brother Bowl, Gamma Epsilon's Get Slam'd, and various sporting events. She is always willing to meet new Brothers and travel to ICR events!
