Andrew Harris is an Alumni Member of Alpha Sigma Chapter (Chapter roll #218) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Before the Fraternity

Andrew was raised around Richmond, VA, and began at VCU in Fall 2005 as a Computer Science student. He considered minors in Business and French upon entering, and sought out student organizations and groups of people on campus that meshed well with his interests. This led him to pursue membership in his second semester with the VCU Chapters of Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity and Phi Sigma Pi. He was part of the Pi Initiate Class of Spring 2006, and was inducted at the conclusion of the Spring 2006 semester.

During Active Membership

Andrew was appointed Brotherhood Chair in his first semester of Active Membership following a mid-semester vacancy for the position. He was later given the duties of Webmaster after the graduation of the previous chair. He was elected to Recruitment Advisor for the 2007-2008 academic year, and helped develop the role of Public Relations Advisor during this time. Later he was elected to Parliamentarian for the 2008-2009 academic year, serving also as ex officio Chapter Standards and Risk Management chair, until graduation in May 2009.

Andrew shifted his focus of study in Summer 2007 away from Business and French and toward Sociology, which he later developed into a full-fledged second major. He was also able to take on Mathematics as a minor. This followed his experience with the Honors Summer Undergraduate Research Program in 2007, a summer research program run through the Honors College at VCU. Andrew would later also engage in summer research with a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF REU) program at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL.

Alumni Years

Andrew will begin doctoral study in Computer Science in Fall 2009 at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He will offer himself as a resource for Epsilon Zeta Chapter while remaining in good contact with his home Chapter.

National Involvement

Andrew was part of a road trip in Fall 2008 to Delta Chi Chapter at Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, PA, for Delta Chi's annual kickball tournament.
