Robert Mitchell (born 7 July 1986) is an Alumni Member of Alpha Eta Chapter (AH 486) at University of Delaware. He is currently a member of the Columbus Area Alumni Association, and the National Alumni Association.

Early Fraternity Life and Career

Robert enrolled at the University of Delaware in Fall of 2004 after graduating from Newark High School in Newark, Delaware. As a Freshman, he was looking for an activity not directly related to academics to devote his time to. Upon receiving a letter of invitation to rush Phi Sigma Pi, he decided to research the organization a bit. Excited about the prospect of joining such a non-traditional fraternity he decided to rush, and after getting to meet all the members of this organization was determined to make it through. Robert was inducted in the Spring of 2005.

Collegiate Years at Alpha Eta Chapter (2005-2009)

Robert was very active in Phi Sigma Pi as an undergraduate. He participated in such inter-chapter events as volleyball with the Alpha Beta Chapter at the University of Maryland three of the four years he was a Brother, Get SLAM'D hosted by the Gamma Epsilon Chapter at the University of Florida in 2007 and 2008, National Convention in 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia, and was the Alpha Eta Chapter Delegate to the Grand Chapter Conference in Nashville, Tennessee in 2008. He also has not missed a single inter-chapter event sponsored by the Alpha Eta Chapter since he was inducted in Spring of 2005, namely the annual Kick the Silence kickball tournament, and the annual Hope Bowl flag football tournament.

Locally Robert was just as active. He served in at least one leadership position every semester he was a Brother. His Sophomore year he served as one of the first Chairs of the Risk Management Committee after it became a standing committee. During his term as committee chair he helped to direct the committee's goals, expand it's horizons, and define the committee's place within the chapter. His influence on the committee as it was still being developed still defines what this committee is and how it operates to this day. His Junior, Senior, and Fifth years he served as Webmaster, where he completely redesigned the Alpha Eta Chapter Website into a far more interactive, informative, and attractive site than the previous simple template website had been. He added Brother profiles designed to allow website visitors to get to know the Brotherhood better, a news feed on the main page to show just how active the Alpha Eta Chapter was, and a Brothers Only login section complete with all the governing documents, both local and national, a complete calendar of events, and announcements section, just to name a few of the new features. His Fifth year he also served as chapter Parliamentarian, where he developed programs to help instruct both Brothers and Initiates of the Alpha Eta Chapter on Robert's Rules of Parliamentary Procedure and the most pertinent national rules and regulations. Some instructional programs included summary-sheet and quick-reference handouts, mock debates with Initiates during their meetings, and competitive game-show-like events during Brotherhood meetings, the most frequent of which was Robert's Rules Jeopardy. While Parliamentarian he also took on the undertaking of correcting a couple common mistakes with Robert's Rules that had been perpetuated down for generations within his chapter.

Among Alpha Eta Chapter Brothers, Robert has always been best known for his extensive knowledge of Robert's Rules of Parliamentary Procedure, and both local and national governing documents. Even now after graduation the Alpha Eta Chapter's Brothers frequent him with phone calls and emails clarifying rules or for assistance with writing amendments.

Alumni Years to Present

Currently, Robert is pursuing his Ph.D. in Theoretical High Energy Particle Physics at The Ohio State University, and occasionally pursuing his hobby of web site programming and design as a small side job. About once a month he will attend either an Alpha Eta Chapter meeting, or a Beta Iota Chapter meeting in an attempt to stay current and provide assistance whenever he can. His current goals consist of continuing to educate the Alpha Eta Chapter on Robert's Rules and the governing documents, encouraging the Beta Iota Chapter to travel to other chapters more to get the full Phi Sigma Pi experience, and joining a national committee to continue being active within the fraternity.
