During the 2011 National Convention it was announced that the 2012 Alternative Break Project would be taking place at two locations:
- SPARK Academy in Newark, NJ to construct a mural that will make their new location more kid-friendly, as well as to reflect the values and mission of KIPP
- KIPP Spirit College Preparatory in Houston, TX to build an outdoor theater/classroom where students can perform plays
