Hershey Bar War
Starting in 2013, SAAC decided to assist a project of two of their Members, Ryan Alexander and Jillian Quirante. Ryan and Jillian are members of the Board of Directors for Mission of Hope - Philippines. The project that they decided to take on was to collect Hershey chocolate bars for the working students providing them with a sweet treat, in addition to the supplies brought by the Mission of Hope team, and often a source of food for the day. In efforts to collect the most Hershey bars for the cause, they decided to have a friendly competition with the local Collegiate Chapter Epsilon Xi. The Chapter who collects the most Hershey bars during the allotted time won bragging rights and additional PR via the Mission of Hope - Philippines. Other Brothers from around the nation are encouraged to participate as well. Alumni Members may donate bars toward SAAC's total and Collegiate Members may donate bars toward Epsilon Xi's total.
Totals (Winners of the war are bolded):
2013: Total Bars: 596 Epsilon Xi - 251 SAAC - 345
2014: Total Bars: 486 Epsilon Xi - 262 SAAC - 224 Note: Epsilon Xi Chapter would have won this year's war if bars were turned in by the deadline.
2015: Total Bars: 917 Epsilon Xi - 392 SAAC - 525
Current Year's Events
During the spring, SAAC particpiated in the Hershey Bar War again this year against Epsilon Xi.
January 2015: During the month of January, SAAC did not hold an event.
February 2015: February was a service event for SAAC. The Chapter decided to participate in two drives: the Hershey Bar War (see above) and collecting event-sized bubbles for the Bluegrass Region Conference 2015.
March 2015: SAAC got together for a social event to try a new-to-us, local restaurant, Ole Guacamole. We had a fun-filled night with great food, conversation, and general fellowship. We were able to talk about a lot of upcoming events and catch up with everyone.
April 2015: For April's scholarship event, SAAC met for lunch and a meeting and then headed to the Hands On Museum in Johnson City to experience the Our Body - The Universe Within exhibit. SAAC Members were able to learn about the human anatomy, the process to make the exhibit possible, and information about blood and organ donation. It was truly a unique experience.
May 2015: SAAC did not have an official "event" for May; however, we were able to get together for some fellowship during the Memorial Day holiday at Joanne's house. We enjoyed some great company, food, drink, and of course s'mores! Later in the month, we had an official SAAC meeting to discuss National Convention, our retreat, and other business.
June 2015: For June's social event, we gathered at Sydney's house for a wonderful evening filled with laughter and delicious fondue! Chris and Sydney treated us to a fabulous cheese fondue and both white and chocolate, peanut butter chocolate fondues. We all left happy, full, and excited for the upcoming retreat!
