The Richard Cecil Todd and Clauda Pennock Todd Tripod Scholarship was established in September 1991 by Dr. and Mrs. Richard Todd to promote the future academic opportunity of Phi Sigma Pi brothers who have excelled in embodying the ideals of scholarship, leadership, and fellowship. Dr. Todd passed away on July 18, 1993, but his memory and the innumerable contributions he made to Phi Sigma Pi will never be forgotten.
Dr. Todd completed his undergraduate studies at Millersville University and was inducted into Sigma Chapter in 1936. After finishing his doctoral studies in History at Duke University in 1950, Dr. Todd received a faculty position at East Carolina University. He served as the Tau Chapter advisor for twenty-seven years, and also held membership in Tau Chapter. Mrs. Todd holds the distinction of being the first honorary woman inducted into Phi Sigma Pi (by Tau Chapter) in 1977. In addition to his contributions to many of the local chapters, Dr. Todd was also a source of stability for the National Office.
