Philly Cup 2006

Philly Cup is an annual weekend ICR event built around a soccer tournament, hosted by the Αlpha Lambda and Gamma Xi Chapters. It is held every November and proceeds go to Autism Speaks. Last year, nearly 200 brothers attended and over $2,700 was donated to Autism Speaks.

Philly Cup 2009 has been set for November 13th-15th! Registration packets will be sent out in mid-September.

Origin

Philly Cup is mainly the brainchild of Michael Mudrick. During his term as President of Alpha Lambda Chapter, Mike wanted to plan an event that would help the Brothers of Temple's chapter bond. The Brotherhood Games, a former ICR event hosted by Alpha Lambda, had been tailing off in attendance and enthusiasm. Mike's initial planning laid the groundwork for a floor hockey tournament. He started sharing his idea with Brothers at Alpha Lambda and in the Philadelphia area, including Brad Youst and Gabriel Lee of Gamma Xi Chapter at Drexel University. After consulting with these Brothers, it was determined that a hockey event was not scalable. Since everyone included in the planning of this event was determined to make it an annual event, Philly Cup would need to be scalable to the future volumes of Brothers in attendance. With a suggestion from a fellow Brother at Alpha Lambda, Mike decided to switch the sport to soccer. Soccer is almost a universal sport, a lot of fun, and very scalable.

The First Annual Philly Cup was a success because of those initial Brothers that put so much time and effort into its creation. So much work was done that first year that there weren't many bugs to work out. This laid the blueprint for making subsequent years' planning efforts be focused on immediately growing the magnitude of the event.
