The Alpha Xi Chapter celebrates Founders Day Spring 2011

Chapter History

Founding

The Alpha Xi chapter was founded on Sunday evening, March 3, 1991 in Heth Lounge B.

Early Years

Members of the Alpha Xi chapter helped induct the founding members of the Alpha Rho Chapter chapter at Virginia Tech on November 3, 1991.

Mat Panyik of the Gamma Class served our first National position as what was known then as a Chapter Consultant and now as a Regional Consultant. The Chapter Service Key has been awarded to two of our members, Jennifer Cook in the spring of 1994 and Jane Allison Ludwing in the spring of 1996. Receiving the Chapter Service Key is a great honor it recognizes an individual Brother for providing outstanding service to the Fraternity.

In recent years Mr. Gregory Humble, President of Alpha Xi during the Fall of 2000 and the Spring of 2001 started a Radford University Foundation Scholarship. We are working hard to put the scholarship into use. With much assistance from Mr. Humble himself, and recent initiate classes, the Chi's, Omega's, and Alpha Gamma's, we are looking forward to seeing a dream become reality.

Initiate Classes

Main Article: List of Alpha Xi Chapter Initiate Classes
The Alpha Xi Chapter selects one initiate class each semester following a rigorous Rush process. Initiate classes typically range between 12 and 18 members, although this is not governed by any chapter policy and exceptions do occur.

The chapter follows a nine week initiation curriculum that has been developed and refined from year to year. At the end of the nine week process, initiates are inducted into the Chapter, pending passage of a Chapter Final Vote and successful completion of all national and chapter requirements.

  • This semester (Fall 2011) we set up a table at the annual Club Fair. There was tons of interest in the fraternity and it showed in our open rush events.
  • Open Rush
    • Cook out: Initiates and Brothers went to the local park and enjoyed hotdogs and other side dishes while getting to know the possible initiates.
    • Kickball: A friendly game of kickball was played on Moffett Lawn. Teams were a mix of current brothers and rushees.
    • Game Night: Several rounds of Capitalism ended in a night of lots of laughs and stiff competition.
  • Closed Rush:
    • Photo Scavenger Hunt: Several groups of brothers and rushees travelled around the Radford area performing and taking pictures of various tasks, from handstands to finding a picture of the President of Radford University. The winning group's rushees won gift cards to Starbucks and lots of praise. The fun times can be seen in the pictures.
    • BTO's: A trip to the local frozen yogurt joint included several conversations between brothers and rushees. It was a great bonding experience.
    • Round Robin: It is simply Q&A with the brothers.

  • Family Jeopardy: The A&S committee created four jeopardy games to play in the month of September. Teams competed by answering questions about the Chapter families, initiate classes, the National Council, and various other subjects.
  • Highlander Festival: Every year the City of Radford puts on a Highlander Festival celebrating the culture with games, dances, and merchandise. As an A&S event, members of the chapter walked around learning about the Highlanders.
  • RU Scared: The Residence Hall Association put on an event called RU Scared and Phi Sigma Pi had a table there. The event took place on October 30th 2011 and about 100 children attended.
