In 2009, Beta Iota celebrated its 15th annual Founders' Day by holding a Quinceneara-themed banquet and a weekend celebrating the Chapter's history with the help of Alumni and Brothers from other chapters.
On January 31st, 1994, at The Ohio State University one of the largest public universities in the U.S.A, the Beta Iota chapter of Phi Sigma Pi was founded. Distinguished to be the founding fathers of this new chapter at the time were 10 new brothers; Todd, Lewis, Kari Larson, Michelle Martine, Bryan Deorsch, Gregor Homan, Nicole Miller, Kevin Temple, Christian Hailer, Candi Lukat and Lori Lafontaine. From that day, the chapter celebrated the 31st January by having a weekend dedicated to Phi Sigma Pi activities where brothers are indulged in Leadership, Scholarship and Fellowship related activities.

This year marked our 13th anniversary as a chapter and being dedicated, as usual, we of course strove to make it an ever better founder’s day. Planning begun during the fall quarter, this was in September. A location was found, date set; 27th January and invitations sent out to interchapter brothers and alumni. We the social chairs made sure to remind everyone at every chapter meeting about the big day approaching in order to get them roused and ready for it.

The Friday before the day, we had brothers arrive from out of town and started the weekend out by going to Dinner at Don Pablos with the Eta brothers from IUP who arrived here first. After dinner, we had the brothers settled in where they were going to be staying for the week-end. We all then got ready and went out to the campus, dancing at a club. It was a great time as being out in such an open space got brothers interacting with each other especially the interchapter brothers who had never been to Ohio State before. It also got brothers more comfortable with each other and hence the start of a good week-end.

The next morning, we all went out to do community service in order to reflect Leadership because to be leaders we need to be able to serve others first. We went to he Ronald McDonald House a non-profit organization that house that houses parents and families of kids who go to the hospital and have to stay there for extended periods of time. This was a Scholarship fulfillment because we got to learn more about this wonderful organization and what they do and the sorts of things they have done that has really impacted families that they have served. While some of us were helping clean the Ronald McDonald house, others baked a large amount of cookies which we took to the House later during the week.

Our banquet, which was Saturday evening, took place at the OSU golf course banquet hall, comprised of Alumnists, Interchapter brothers and Beta Iota Brothers and their guests, for those who came with guests. We had everyone mixed up so as to keep up with the spirit of fellowship that we had going that week-end by having them talk and get to know more about our various chapters, more about each other and what our Alumnists are doing with their lives. There was a slideshow, food and dancing which all involved a lot of interacting from Brothers which was the point of the whole week-end thereby making it a huge success.

Next year we look forward to making it and even greater event and cannot wait to do it again, only then there will be a lot more surprises.
