Gamma Omicron Chapter (Founded 12 February 1997; Reactivated 1 December 2007) is located at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. The Chapter is a member of the South Region.

Chapter History

Founding

Gamma Omicron Chapter was founded at Auburn University on February 12, 1997.

Early Years

Decline of the Chapter

During the mid-2000's, the Gamma Omicron Chapter saw a sharp decline in membership as well as Brother involvement. In the fall of 2004, the Chapter opened the semester with 24 Brothers on roll. However, due to resignations and "no-shows," this number dropped to a mere 12 Brothers by the time the semester got under way. Losing three to graduation and only gaining 7 in the incoming Omicron Initiate Class, the Chapter closed that semester at 16 Brothers. Though things were beginning to turn around in the 2005-2006 academic year, a depletion of Chapter funds and apathy among the Brothers caused the Gamma Omicron Chapter to go inactive in 2006 for a period of restructuring.

Rejuvenation

Gamma Omicron was reactivated on December 1, 2007, with help from both the National Office and Delta Phi Alumnus Mat Hartline. Building on a base of 33 Brothers inducted into the Sigma Class, the Chapter went on to induct a whopping 75 Brothers in the Tau Class in the Spring of 2008. This rapid expansion led to problems in the following semesters, plagued with resignations and expulsions. Seeing this decline in Chapter morale and efficiency, the 12th Gamma Omicron Chapter Executive Board stabilized the growth with smaller inductions in the Chi and Psi Classes and sought to reboot the Chapter with a rebuilding of the policies and foundation that had been set by the Sigma Class in 2007. A capstone of the rebuilding of the Chapter was seen in May of 2010 when the Chapter held its first ever formal and granted the first of the Gamma Omicron Awards (see List of Gamma Omicron Chapter Awards).
